Can anyone explain the Anarchist society and murder?

hunterkiryu:

I don’t understand how you can stop murderers and not remove a life or someone’s freedoms. And it is something that bothers me a bit.

Okay, so, this is very good example of simple perspective/paradigm shift in waiting.

the word murder, already, is a little ambiguous, because the circumstances of the death must be determined as accurately as possible to determine what degree of murder was committed. so you don’t just have murder, but several types. and a subsequent attempt a verifying the truth. and don’t let CSI fool you, the truth is rarely actually unearthed at all, and when it is, it is rarely all the truth.

in the current paradigm, the solution we allow ourselves to see, is to separate the murderer from the general population for a set time according to lawful strictures that apply to their degree of murder and to attempt (in a very few cases) to rehabilitate the individual. this authoritarian view seems to work, since there are so many murderers behind bars, but this is nothing more than a simple perception, that hides the more devious nature of an authoritarian system of incarceration.

look up The Stanford Experiment, and you will see what prisons do, how authority over others truly works.

an anarchist paradigm would be vastly different. Anarchism is about being responsible for you. and since you exist within a larger community than just yourself, it is in your interest to look after the community. if murder is a possibility, then a responsible anarchist looks at the why it is a possibility. and then works toward eliminating those fundamental problems that result in murder.

let us now look at possible reasons why someone might commit murder.

1. Money - Because of money owed or needed. I have said before that i cannot foresee an anarchist society that uses money or possessions in any form, so this would not be a problem

2. Passion - Because in the heat of an argument someone does something that results in death. This is a societal problem, and one that is more often than not incited by personal affront to the destruction of property, which wont exist if the society is anarchist

3. Medical Problem - Such as Manic Depression or Psychosis. Someone suffering from a medical problem should be given help, not a prison cell. and assisting them is not taking away their freedom, it is prevent something preventable from becoming a recurring problem.

Almost every example I have found of a classification for murder can be summed up by these three. And Anarchism, by it’s nature of being both individualist and communalist, prevents many of the conditions that result in murder. it also creates that sense of responsibility needed for a community to look out for one another, since anarchists need fellow anarchists to survive at all.

the transition from one paradigm to the other seems to require a leap of faith, but again, this is just a perception. In reality, it requires no more faith than it takes to to let go of possessions and trust that the universe will not collapse.
